center for hope & healing
The Center for Hope and Healing is a Nevada 501c3, Non-Profit.
Our mission is to provide a place for children, teens, and adults, who have experienced the death of a loved one, to safely explore their perspectives on grief, understand responses to loss and develop strategies for coping, communicating and healing in a healthy manner.
OUR STORY
In 2009 years ago, 3 student deaths at Douglas High School devastated both students and staff. Grief counselor Jodi Wass and pediatric thanatologist Emilio Parga were called to run support groups for students grieving the loss of their classmates and friends. The grief support groups continued through 2010, and at this point Wass and Parga saw a need for a program that served all community members who have lost a loved one in Douglas County and surrounding areas. In 2010, Wass and Parga co-founded the Douglas Center for Hope and Healing. Board members were recruited and in 2011 began providing support services for grieving children, teens and families. In 2014, CHH filled a need by creating Camp Hope, a 1-day grief camp for kids and teens.
Through fundraising and grants we have been able to keep ALL of our services FREE of charge for the past 11 years.
